Egypt's Ministry of Health and Population screens 4,9 million students for health conditions

In a groundbreaking initiative, the Ministry of Health and Population reported that some 4.9 million students across Egypt have been screened for health conditions such as anaemia, obesity and stunting.

The programme, which targets primary school students, was launched in November 2023 and has been praised for its efforts in early detection and treatment of diseases.

Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the ministry's spokesperson, emphasised that the initiative aims to screen primary school students, including both Egyptian and foreign nationals, in all governorates. This is reported by Daily News Egypt, a partner of TV BRICS.

The surveys, which include health checks and measurements of weight, height and blood haemoglobin levels, play an important role in identifying nutritional deficiencies and developing strategies to improve students' health in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Technical Training.

Mohamed Dahi, Head of the General Authority for Health Insurance, emphasised that students diagnosed with diseases are promptly referred to health insurance clinics for further examination and necessary treatment. Each student also receives a "monitoring card" containing their data for continuous health monitoring and check-ups at health insurance clinics across the country.
