This technology will supply electricity not only for domestic consumption but also for public utilities
Ethiopia's Ministry of Water and Energy is actively working to provide electricity in rural areas using solar panels. This is reported by ENA, a partner of TV BRICS.
Ato Berhanu Woldu, representative of the Rural Energy Technology Development at the Ministry of Water and Energy, said 25 small rural towns will have access to electricity in the near future through solar technology.
The ministry has already provided electricity to 15 rural towns using mini-grid technology, which can supply power for both domestic needs and public facilities such as hospitals and schools.
Berhanu said work on installing solar panels in 25 new towns has already been completed, and connecting electricity to homes is in the final stages. He predicts that these projects will be up and running by December 2024.
The ministry also distributed 345,520 solar technologies last fiscal year, which helped provide access to electricity to 1.6 million people in rural areas.
Berhanu emphasised that these efforts are aimed at creating an affordable and reliable electricity system in rural Ethiopia and are being achieved by attracting private investment.
