Hydrogen-powered bus trial explores sustainable transport solutions in Saudi Arabia
A second trial of a hydrogen fuel cell-powered bus has been launched in Makkah as part of a broader initiative to integrate clean energy into the city’s transport network. The project, overseen by the Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites in collaboration with key government entities, aims to assess the feasibility of hydrogen-powered mobility. This is reported by Saudi Press Agency.
The initiative is part of a memorandum of understanding between the commission and the Ministry of Energy, designed to explore hydrogen applications in public transport.
The pilot programme will gather commercial and technical data, providing insights for potential large-scale deployment. Additionally, it seeks to enhance public awareness of hydrogen technology and its environmental benefits.
Aligned with Vision 2030’s sustainability goals, the initiative focuses on reducing emissions and improving air quality by introducing clean energy transport solutions.
