India and UAE sign strategic energy agreements to strengthen oil reserves and LPG cooperation
New Delhi and Abu Dhabi deepen comprehensive partnership with major energy deals amid growing focus on regional stability and long-term energy security
India and United Arab Emirates have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on strategic petroleum reserves and a new agreement on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supplies, reports IANS, a partner of TV BRICS.
The agreements were finalised during talks in Abu Dhabi between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as both sides moved to strengthen their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
According to Indian officials, the new agreements are expected to reinforce India’s long-term energy security while expanding cooperation in strategic reserves, fuel supplies and broader infrastructure development. The visit also produced agreements in maritime infrastructure and advanced technologies, reflecting the increasingly multi-dimensional character of relations between the two countries.
“The friendship between India and UAE is very strong! Our nations will keep working together with the aim of building a better future for our planet,” Prime Minister Modi stated.
Energy security emerged as one of the central themes of the negotiations. Both countries agreed to deepen collaboration across oil supply chains, strategic reserves and regional energy connectivity.
Indian authorities described the energy agreements as a significant boost for the country’s economic resilience and long-term development strategy. Alongside the petroleum and LPG deals, the UAE announced US$5 billion in planned investments into Indian infrastructure projects, further strengthening economic ties between the two nations.
During the talks, the leaders also discussed trade, investment, digital technologies, blue economy initiatives and people-to-people ties, while exchanging views on developments across West Asia and other international issues.
Analysts believe the latest agreements signal a broader strategic shift in India-UAE relations, with energy cooperation increasingly linked to regional connectivity, infrastructure development and long-term economic integration across the Gulf and South Asia.
