Indonesia's Ministry of Environment is upgrading its National Registry System for Climate Change Control in a move to enhance its ability to track emissions. The revamped system will serve as a centralised hub for climate-related data, providing a more modern and user-friendly platform for stakeholders. This is reported by ANTARA.
The goal is to transform the registry into a robust national climate data centre capable of supporting evidence-based analysis for informed decision-making.
New features are being developed to facilitate the verification process, offer improved data visualisation, and provide a more transparent and accessible system for all users.
Furthermore, the upgraded system will support the implementation of the Economic Value of Carbon initiative, which includes carbon trading, an area Indonesia has been actively developing. The aim is to transform climate data into actionable intelligence, allowing the country to identify areas for improvement in its efforts to reduce emissions.
In its Enhanced National Development Planning (NDC), Indonesia has committed to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 31.89 per cent through independent efforts and up to 43.2 per cent with international support. Indonesia aims to achieve carbon neutrality, or net zero emissions, by 2060.
Across the BRICS group, countries are advancing climate action, highlighting a variety of approaches to lowering emissions.
Ethiopia is also accelerating its green transition by expanding electric transport as part of its strategy to cut emissions and strengthen climate resilience, as reported by Fana Media Corporation (FMC), a partner of TV BRICS. The government is promoting the use of electric vehicles and rail systems, supported by local EV assembly, new charging infrastructure, and the rollout of electric buses in Addis Ababa and other cities.
Earlier, Chinese scientists developed an electrified catalysis method that achieves net-negative greenhouse gas emissions by removing more CO₂ than is produced in the energy supply chain. This was reported by China Daily, a partner of TV BRICS. The new electrified dry reforming of methane process converts carbon dioxide and methane into syngas with high efficiency and long-term stability. Researchers emphasise that this breakthrough offers a scalable system for reducing emissions and advancing global climate change mitigation efforts.
In turn, the South African city of eThekwini in KwaZulu-Natal has received approval to generate its own electricity from renewable and low-carbon sources, as reported by DUrbanTV, a partner of TV BRICS. The initiative is designed to cut emissions and strengthen climate monitoring, marking a key step in the city’s long-term strategy to advance sustainable energy and reduce its carbon footprint.
