Indonesia sets coal production record in 2024
Indonesia is actively utilising the resource to meet domestic energy needs
Indonesia has reached a record level of coal production in 2024, according to the country's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. This is reported by Vietnam News Agency (VNA), a partner of TV BRICS.
Preliminary data points to a volume of 831 million tonnes, 17 per cent higher than the government's target. As the world's largest exporter of coal, Indonesia is actively using this resource to meet domestic energy needs.
However, the country's authorities continue to work towards the goal set by President Prabowo Subianto to completely phase out coal-fired power plants by 2040.
Earlier, it was reported that Indonesia was intensifying efforts to achieve pharmaceutical self-reliance by promoting the production of medicines from natural raw materials.
