Iran's fishery exports increase by 15 per cent last year

The Republic is actively developing the aquaculture industry

Iran exported over 186,000 tonnes of fish products worth US$337,7 million in the first 11 months of the previous Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2023 – February 19, 2024). This is reported by Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS, citing data from the country's Customs Administration.

According to the information provided, exports increased by 6,5 per cent in value and 15,3 per cent in quantity. The publication notes that Iran's aquaculture industry is actively developing and is beginning to take a leading position in the production of some types of fish products.

According to the head of the Iranian Fisheries Organisation (IFO) Hossein Hosseini, the country exported fish products worth US$600 million in 2022.

The UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) believes that Iran plays an important role in the region's fishing industry and can be considered a model in this field for many other countries.
