Iran to boost renewable energy capacity by 500 MW for March 2025

This objective is supported by memoranda of understanding (MoUs) signed in January 2022

Iran is on track to boost its renewable energy capacity by 500 MW by March 2025, as reported by Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS. This increase aligns with Iran’s strategic push to develop renewable energy sources and address electricity demand imbalances across the nation.

Currently, Iran's nominal renewable capacity stands at 1,371 MW, with a recent addition of 53 MW just last week, showing an active progression in renewable energy infrastructure.

In recent years, Iran has implemented major initiatives to accelerate renewable energy growth. Key measures include diversifying financing models for green projects, raising the ceiling on guaranteed electricity purchases, enabling renewable electricity trading, and facilitating renewable energy exports.

Looking ahead, Iran’s Energy Ministry has set a goal to increase the nation’s renewable energy capacity by 10,000 MW by the end of 2025. This objective is supported by memoranda of understanding (MoUs) signed in January 2022 between the ministry and private sector contractors, aimed at the construction of new renewable power plants.

The expansion of renewable energy in Iran reflects the country’s dedication to sustainable growth, energy independence, and a greener future. This proactive approach is positioning Iran as a leader in renewable energy development across the region.
