They are trying to attract more tourists to the country
Iranian authorities and scientists intend to have the ancient city of Harireh, located on Kish Island, added to the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation's (ISESCO) World Heritage List by the end of this year. This could attract more tourists to Hormozgan province, notes
Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.
Local official Mahdi Adiban said the ancient city is already on UNESCO's tentative list. He believes the site will be on ISESCO's list by the end of December.
The ancient city is located on an island known for its many beach holiday opportunities. Harireh was built in the 8th century AD out of clay. It served as a port on the trade route from Iran to China and India. Fragments of a mosque, a bathhouse and a palace remain among the ruins. Those wishing to explore the ruins of the city can also see the remains of houses, city gates and watchtowers.
