Nigeria and Egypt forge comprehensive partnership to boost trade and cooperation

A Nigeria-Egypt Chamber of Commerce is planned for establishment by the end of 2025

Nigeria and Egypt are solidifying their bilateral relationship, agreeing to elevate their ties to a comprehensive partnership. Following a high-level meeting between Badr Abdelatty, the Egyptian Foreign Minister, and his Nigerian counterpart, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, both nations have outlined plans to intensify collaboration in trade, investment, security, and cultural exchange. This is reported by  Daily News Egypt, a partner of TV BRICS.

Central to this new partnership is the commitment to establish a joint chamber of commerce by the end of 2025, a strategic move designed to dismantle barriers to economic integration under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The scope of cooperation extends far beyond trade, encompassing key sectors such as agriculture, energy, telecommunications, and education, with a particular emphasis on driving job creation and sustainable development through initiatives in irrigation, water management, and critical infrastructure.

Both nations are prioritising cultural and educational exchange, with plans for robust scholarship programmes and capacity-building initiatives delivered through specialised institutes. Both ministers commended the recent agreement on visa exemptions for diplomatic passport holders and the readjustment of visa fees.

Furthermore, Alaa Farouk, Egypt's Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, and Abubakar Kyari, Nigeria's Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, met to outline a comprehensive plan for collaboration, exploring a wide range of potential projects and partnerships across various agricultural domains.

The delegation, comprising experts from the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture and the private sector, is reportedly scheduled to visit Nigeria to further develop and implement a detailed roadmap for cooperation.

A Nigeria-Egypt Chamber of Commerce is planned for establishment by the end of 2025, with a launch anticipated during the fourth round of ministerial-level consultations in Abuja in 2026.
