The Russia-ASEAN Business Council proposed the creation of a strategic economic planning group

A proposal to establish a Russia-ASEAN Strategic Economic Planning Group has been put forward by the Russia-ASEAN Business Council. This group is expected to include both public and private sector representatives. Ivan Polyakov, Chairman of the Russia-ASEAN Business Council, announced this during the EAEU Days at the ASEAN Secretariat taking place on 20-21 November in Jakarta, Indonesia. This is reported by Eurasia Today, a partner of TV BRICS.

According to Polyakov, the creation of such a group will significantly increase the volume of economic co-operation between Russia and the association countries in the coming years, exceeding the $100 billion mark. The five main areas of cooperation for the period 2021-2025 include the creation of sustainable infrastructure, development of digital innovations, logistics corridors, improving transport accessibility and improving the legislative framework.

In addition, Polyakov noted the successful launch and implementation of the National Technology Initiative (NTI) in Russia, which creates conditions for Russian companies to lead in new high-tech markets. He also expressed his belief that Russia's experience in developing breakthrough areas can be extremely useful for ASEAN countries in achieving their sustainable development goals.

This year's EAEU Days at the ASEAN Secretariat are timed to coincide with the fifth anniversary of the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Eurasian Economic Commission and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations on economic co-operation. The event discusses topics such as EAEU-ASEAN interaction in the new economic reality, promoting private sector economic integration, decarbonisation, digitalisation and food security.
