Uganda receives invitation to become BRICS partner country
Odongo Jeje Abubakar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda, met with Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, on the sidelines of the Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, as reported by the Russian Foreign Ministry's press service.
During the talks, the parties discussed Uganda’s cooperation with BRICS, specifically addressing the possibility of granting Uganda the status of a partner country within the group.

According to Uganda’s " The New Vision," the partner status of the East African country could be formalised as early as December this year. Odongo Jeje Abubakar noted that consultations on the matter are currently underway with Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Museven.
In their talks, the Russian and Ugandan Foreign Ministers also discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation, focusing on strengthening mutually beneficial trade, economic, and investment partnerships, as well as exploring joint projects in energy, mining, and other sectors.
In December, Kampala will also host an Intergovernmental Commission meeting, where delegations from Russia and Uganda are expected to discuss a range of issues in greater detail.
