Venezuela strengthens its information collaboration with BRICS countries through TV BRICS International Media Network

The network’s new partner is Venezolana de Televisión

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela will enhance cooperation with BRICS countries in the field of media communications. At the XVI BRICS Summit in Kazan, a corresponding cooperation agreement was signed by Janna Tolstikova, CEO of the TV BRICS International Media Network, and Venezuelan Minister of People's Power for Communication and Information Freddy Alfred Nazareth Ñáñez, who also heads the state-owned broadcaster Venezolana de Televisión.

The partners agreed to cooperate in the exchange of information and the creation of joint media products. Through TV BRICS, Venezuela's broadcaster will have the opportunity for prompt communication with colleagues from other BRICS+ countries to promote its own agenda and strengthen the international image of the republic.

“We have realised the dream of belonging to the large multinational TV BRICS platform, which can uphold the voice of the peoples of the Global South. Our goal is to make international communication democratic, creating multilateral channels of communication that convey linguistic and cultural diversity. To get to know us better, Venezuelans, Russians, Chinese, and Indians, we must avoid media bias; we need the freedom to express our culture. For us, the BRICS group is the salvation of humanity in every sense. BRICS embodies multiculturalism, respect between nations, economic complementarity, political diversity, and, ultimately, balance in the world. That is why, for us, all BRICS countries are our sisters. We want this summit to contribute to the establishment of a multipolar world,” noted Freddy Alfred Nazareth Ñáñez.

The state-owned channel Venezolana de Televisión (VTV) was founded in 1964. It is the only national channel covering more than 82 per cent of the country’s territory. VTV broadcasts 24 hours a day, with over 75 per cent of its programmes aired live. The channel’s headquarters is located in Caracas, and it also has a network of correspondents across the country.

Previously, TV BRICS in Venezuela partnered with the teleSUR channel and the National Assembly channel (ANTV). In 2023, at the XV BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, President Nicolas Maduro emphasised the importance of deepening cooperation between the leading Latin American media outlets, teleSUR and TV BRICS.

To foster collaboration with Latin American media, TV BRICS launched a Spanish version of its portal and a corresponding internet broadcasting branch during Russia's BRICS Chairmanship.

“In 2024, we intensified our efforts to prepare and distribute Spanish-language content. In Venezuela, we already broadcast programmes and publish news reports about Russia and other BRICS countries on the country’s leading media outlets. VTV will become a reliable source of verified information about Venezuela for the TV BRICS International Media Network, showcasing the country’s cultural diversity, achievements, and prospects for international cooperation”
