Vietnam discovers new species of honeybee

A new species of honeybee has been discovered in the Vu Quang National Park, a location celebrated for its biodiversity, in the Ha Tinh province of central Vietnam. This significant finding, reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS, was made by scientists from the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

The discovery was part of an ongoing research initiative that began in 2023. The newly identified species belongs to the genus Pasites, under the Ammobatini tribe of the Apidae bee family. This genus is known for its broad distribution, extending from Southern Africa to Asia, and can be easily identified by its shiny, punctuated exoskeleton and uniquely shaped abdomen.

According to the report, this discovery marks the first recorded finding of the Ammobatini tribe and the Pasites genus in Vietnam, highlighting the country's rich but still insufficiently explored biodiversity.

Vu Quang National Park plays a crucial role in conserving rare and endangered species, making it an essential site for both research and conservation efforts.
