South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has officially opened a district hospital in Mpumalanga Province. The 220-bed facility is designed to serve around 240,000 residents of the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality. This was reported on the official website of the Government of the Republic of South Africa.
The hospital provides a wide range of healthcare services, including surgical and general medical treatment, paediatric care, antenatal and postnatal services, neonatal care, intensive care and emergency medical services. The facility is equipped with three operating theatres, an outpatient department, dental and ophthalmology services. Patients also have access to dietitians, physiotherapists and psychologists.
Cyril Ramaphosa said that a modern healthcare system should focus not only on treating disease but also on prevention, early diagnosis and promoting good health throughout every stage of life.
The President emphasised that the opening of the hospital supports the objectives of the National Health Insurance (NHI) scheme, which aims to ensure that all South Africans have access to quality healthcare services regardless of their financial circumstances.
