Brazil expands network of charging stations for electric vehicles
Infrastructure develops thanks to high demand
From February to August 2025, the number of charging stations for electric vehicles in Brazil increased by 14 per cent. This is reported by Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS.
According to the study, there are almost 17,000 points with general or limited access in the country. Six months ago, this figure was close to 15,000 devices.
It was also found that currently, about 1,500 municipalities in Brazil have infrastructure for charging electric vehicles, which is 10 per cent more than at the beginning of the year.
However, the number of such vehicles is growing faster than the network of charging stations. Currently, there are about 18 cars per station on average. This shows that the infrastructure is developing, but demand is outpacing its growth.
Industry experts note the importance of this process for the country's energy transition. In their opinion, the Brazilian leadership needs to expand investment to achieve decarbonisation goals and keep pace with global developments in the electric vehicle industry.
Similar steps are being taken in other BRICS countries. Indonesia, for example, plans to build 63,000 charging stations for electric cars by 2030 to reduce its dependence on imported fuel and cut CO₂ emissions by one million tonnes per year, reports Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.
Ethiopia has also approved a comprehensive green transport strategy, which includes phasing out imports of used internal combustion engine vehicles, encouraging EV imports, and creating a charging network. According to officials, this will help reduce the country’s US$4 billion annual fuel bill and redirect funds to infrastructure development, according to TV BRICS partner ENA.
Meanwhile, the UAE's Dubai continues to expand its EV Green Charger initiative, which now includes over 1,270 charging points across the emirate. The project supports the UAE’s goal of making electric and hybrid vehicles account for 50 per cent of all cars on the country’s roads by 2050, states Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of the international media network.
