BRICS YEA launches the Youth Energy Transition Commission at COP27
It is a consultative mechanism for interaction between youth and governments
On Thursday, 10 November, at the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27), the BRICS Youth Energy Agency (YEA) launched, together with partner organizations, the Energy Transition Youth Commission under the auspices of the organization Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) at the UN, told TASS.
This step is aimed at developing and supporting youth initiatives in the field of energy, at attracting this category of the population to an active discussion and solution of environmental problems. The latter will have the opportunity to offer their ideas and discuss current global issues at the same table with officials.
“The most important thing for young people at such venues is to be heard and included in the processes,” said Arseniy Kirgizov-Barsky, assistant to the chairman of the BRICS YEA.
In addition, young activists will have the opportunity to discuss the agenda for international organizations and events. Recently, more and more attention has been paid to the youth agenda at forums of various sizes. As the BRICS YEA noted, young people have begun to play an important role in the global climate movement.
Recall that this year COP27 takes place in Egypt, in Sharm el-Sheikh. "The most important annual climate conference," according to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, will run until 18 November.
