Chinese tourist arrivals to Indonesia reach six-year peak in 2025

Indonesia recorded a sharp rise in visitors from China in 2025, with arrivals reaching 1.34 million, the highest level in six years, highlighting a strong recovery in international travel between the two countries, as reported by Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

Official data show a steady upward trend in arrivals over recent years, following a period of disruption to global mobility. The latest figures confirm that travel from China to Indonesia has not only rebounded but surpassed levels seen before the pandemic.

In 2025, travellers from China ranked as the fourth-largest group of international visitors to Indonesia, accounting for 8.7 per cent of total inbound tourism, after visitors from neighbouring Southeast Asian and Asia-Pacific markets.

The most popular destinations among Chinese tourists were Bali and Jakarta, which together welcomed more than one million visits. Other frequently visited locations included North Sumatra, Batam and Surabaya, reflecting growing interest beyond traditional leisure hubs.

The recovery in travel has also been reflected in outbound trends. China ranked among the top destinations for Indonesian travellers, underscoring the gradual normalisation of people-to-people exchanges and regional connectivity across Asia.

Tourism analysts note that the sustained growth in visitor numbers signals renewed confidence in cross-border travel, supported by improved transport links, visa facilitation and diversified tourism offerings.

With international mobility continuing to recover across the region, Indonesia is expected to maintain strong momentum in attracting visitors from major Asian markets in the coming years.
