Egypt announces successful launch and insertion into orbit of domestically developed scientific satellite

The SPNeX spacecraft will study the Earth’s ionosphere

The Egyptian Space Agency has announced the successful launch and commissioning of the scientific satellite SPNeX. The spacecraft, fully developed and assembled in Egypt, has reached its target orbit and begun transmitting telemetry data. This was reported by MENA, a partner of TV BRICS.

The satellite was launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in China aboard a Chinese launch vehicle last week. The ground control station, also developed by Egyptian engineers, confirmed the stable operation of all systems and a high battery charge level after orientation towards the Sun.

The primary mission of the scientific satellite is to carry out scientific measurements in the ionosphere. The spacecraft will collect data on plasma characteristics in the upper layer of the atmosphere, which is important for research into space weather, the impact of solar activity and climate modelling.

The satellite is a nano-class satellite. Its full development cycle, from design to testing, was carried out by Egyptian specialists in laboratories starting in 2022. It is noted that this project demonstrates the country’s achievements in the field of space technologies.

In the near future, the data received from the satellite are planned to be made available to Egyptian universities and research centres for further studies and practical application in the fields of space and climate research.
