Indonesia to boost competitiveness in spice production

Indonesia is focusing on spice processing to strengthen its competitiveness in the global market

The Minister of Trade Budi Santoso emphasised that processing spices at subsequent stages of production is a strategic step for Indonesia, allowing it to move from a comparative advantage in raw materials to competitiveness in the global market. This was reported by ANTARA

According to the minister, without this step, the country will not be able to compete effectively with major producers such as India and China.

The Ministry of Trade has approved the implementation of the Spice Roadmap for 2025-2045 developed by the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas). This roadmap includes key spices such as nutmeg, pepper, cloves, cinnamon, vanilla, and temulawak (Javanese turmeric).

According to the source, this strategic transition is considered crucial for restoring the historical glory of Indonesian spices and strengthening the country's position in the global market.

In addition, the Ministry is developing the export-oriented village initiative and participating in the Rasa Rempah Indonesia culinary programme. This programme, implemented in collaboration with five other ministries and agencies, aims to promote Indonesian cuisine abroad, which in turn contributes to an increase in exports of spices and seasonings.
