Iran plans to launch three satellites into space at beginning of winter

The satellites will help the country expand its technical capabilities across various sectors

Head of the Iranian Space Agency Hassan Salarieh has announced the planned launch of three orbital satellites – Zafar, Paya and the second version of Kowsar – at the beginning of winter, according to Alalam News Network, a partner of TV BRICS.

The satellites are designed for Earth observation and will support regional resource management, environmental monitoring and the further development of Iran’s space industry.

The Kowsar satellite will be launched less than a year after the first model was sent into orbit. This improved version is capable of capturing images with a resolution of about four metres. The 50-kilogram satellite will be placed in orbit at an altitude of around 500 kilometres. It will be useful for the Internet of Things and for transmitting high-resolution images, which are vital for smart agriculture, environmental monitoring and urban mapping.

The Paya satellite will also perform observational functions, providing detailed imaging and data collection for a wide range of practical applications, including climate change monitoring, land use and resource management in the country.

Zafar, developed by the Iran University of Science and Technology, is an advanced Earth observation satellite designed to capture high-precision images of changes on the planet’s surface. Its capabilities will be valuable in various fields, including disaster prevention.

The launch of the three satellites marks an important step for Iran towards technological independence. The ultimate goal is to establish a space-based economy by providing services to citizens and government institutions.
