South Africa's Limpopo hosts Mapungubwe Festival

The festival is known for its variety of musical compositions representing the cultural heritage of South Africa

The annual Mapungubwe Arts Festival has become one of the region's most significant cultural events, attracting thousands of visitors to celebrate the heritage and diverse cultural history of the province. This year the festival celebrated its 15th anniversary and has become an important part of South Africa's cultural calendar.

Notable musicians including Amanda Black, King Monada, gospel singer Winnie Mashaba, Thomas Chauke and Judith Sephuma performed on stage. This is reported by African Times, a partner of TV BRICS.

Phophi Ramathuba, the Premier of Limpopo, reflected on the significance of the festival.

"This event brings people together from all corners of the province and beyond. It fosters unity among different cultures, allowing people to celebrate their differences while embracing their shared history," she said.

The Mapungubwe Arts Festival, while celebrating culture, also brings significant economic benefits to Limpopo. The event attracts visitors from other countries and regions, significantly boosting local tourism, hospitality and small businesses.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) designated Mapungubwe as a World Heritage Site in 2003. It is now part of Mapungubwe National Park and has become the centrepiece of South Africa's cultural calendar.
