The National SDG Committee is responsible for a number of key tasks
The UAE National Committee on Sustainable Development Goals emphasised the importance of intensifying efforts and accelerating implementation to achieve the desired progress by tracking progress in development goals indicators, focusing on opportunities and enhancing cooperation between the public and private sectors.
This came during the first meeting of the National SDG Committee, chaired by Abdullah Nasser Lootah, Assistant Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Competitiveness and Knowledge Exchange. This is reported by Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS.
Abdullah Nasser Lootah emphasised that the UAE leadership places the achievement of the SDGs among its priorities and pursues a vision based on accelerating the achievement of these goals and increasing participation in international efforts to achieve them.
The meeting discussed the results of the progress report on the adoption of the National Sustainable Development Data Plan, mechanisms for monitoring the achievement of the goals and periodic review with working groups to track the level of progress, as well as the most significant initiatives overseen by the National Committee.
In particular, they discussed the Global SDG Councils, which were established at the 2018 World Summit of Governments and represent a unique network that brings together policy makers from governments and international organisations in a platform of international cooperation.
