Brazil advances green hydrogen projects with export focus amid global energy transition

This form of energy can serve various heavy industries, including steelmaking and refining

About 20 major projects planned or under development in several Brazilian states are laying the groundwork for clean energy exports to Asia. This is reported by Metrópoles, a partner of TV BRICS.

According to a 2024 assessment by the National Confederation of Industry, investments exceeding US$33.1 billion are expected over the coming years to develop green hydrogen infrastructure.

This growing sector aligns with global climate goals and represents a major opportunity for Brazil to harness its vast renewable energy resources for international markets, the source claims.

Green hydrogen is produced through water electrolysis powered by renewable energy sources such as wind and solar. The process splits water molecules (H₂O) into hydrogen and oxygen without carbon emissions, enabling the production of clean, storable, and transportable fuel.

This form of energy can serve various heavy industries, including steelmaking and refining, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and cutting greenhouse gas emissions.
