Brazil to celebrate National Gospel Music Day
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva signed a law establishing the National Gospel Music Day. The event will be celebrated on 9 June. This is reported by Metropoles, a partner of the TV BRICS.
The initiative was authored by federal deputy Raimundo Santos.
The chosen date of celebration is linked to the birthday of Frida Vingren, who was a missionary. Vingren was also a singer and songwriter. In particular, she composed several religious hymns.
"The establishment of a commemorative date dedicated to gospel music will demonstrate the value of this direction of culture for millions of Brazilians, as well as draw attention to this genre as a means of finding psychological and spiritual harmony, making it more popular," the deputy said.
