Brazil wants to lead the global biofuels agenda

During its G20 presidency, Brazil is intensifying discussions on biofuels among member countries with the aim of expanding markets through the Global Biofuels Alliance. This initiative was launched during the last G20 summit in New Delhi.

Brazil sees the G20 as a strategic platform to address technical and scientific issues related to biofuels. At a seminar in Rio de Janeiro, Andre Correa do Lago, Secretary for Climate, Energy and Environment at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasised the importance of these discussions and their relevance for the next Conference of Parties (COP 30) to be held in Para in 2025. The event brought together authorities, researchers, BNDES representatives to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing the sector. The Global Biofuels Alliance, which comprises 19 countries and 15 international organisations, is in the process of defining its decision-making bodies within the organisation.

Head of Renewable Energy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lais Garcia, emphasised the importance of industry participation and the need to establish common rules to develop a sustainable global biofuels market.
