Deputy Speaker of Federation Council of Russian Federation discusses upcoming BRICS events with foreign parliamentarians

Senator leads Russian delegation at the 148th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU)


Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Konstantin Kosachev attended the meeting of heads of parliamentary delegations of the BRICS countries in an enlarged format. The meeting was held in Geneva on the margins of the 148th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, where the Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council headed the Russian delegation.

The meeting discussed the upcoming events organised under Russia's BRICS Chairmanship in 2024 – the meeting of the Chairmen of the International Affairs Committees in Moscow, as well as the BRICS Parliamentary Forum in St. Petersburg. According to Konstantin Kosachev, all delegations have confirmed their participation in it.

On the margins of the Assembly, the senator also had a conversation with the The Deputy Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) of South Africa, Sylvia Lucas, and Senate Minority Leader of Philippines, Aquilino Pimentel III. The sides spoke in favour of intensifying contacts between the relevant committees.

Following the meetings, Konstantin Kosachev reported on the words of support expressed to Russian parliamentarians and the entire Russian people in connection with the terrorist attack in Moscow Region.
