Egypt and China strengthen water co-operation at Abu Dhabi forum

The two sides held talks to activate the previously signed memorandum of understanding between the two countries

Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sweilem and Zhu Chengqing, Vice Minister of Water Resources of China held talks at the 6th Arab Water Forum aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of water resources management. This is reported by Daily News Egypt, a partner of TV BRICS.

The talks focused on activating the previously signed memorandum of understanding between the two countries, which emphasises training, capacity building, research and technology transfer. They also highlighted the benefits of benefiting from the expertise of Egypt's National Water Research Centre.

Sweilem expressed interest in utilising China's advanced technologies to manage salt water for agricultural purposes while taking into account the environmental impact.

The two officials also discussed the possibilities of technical assistance from China and the organisation of training programmes by Chinese experts at the "African Centre for Water and Climate Adaptation", which will help strengthen relations between African countries and China.
