Egypt and UAE sign memorandum to advance waste management and recycling investment projects
Egypt’s Minister of Environment, Yasmine Fouad, attended the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Egypt’s Waste Management Regulatory Authority and the UAE’s waste management and recycling services company.
This agreement aims to explore cooperation and expand investment in Egypt’s waste management and recycling sector. This is reported by Daily News Egypt, a partner of TV BRICS.
The Minister of Environment emphasised that the Memorandum of Understanding seeks to assess investment opportunities and partnerships across the public and private sectors. Focus areas include waste management expertise, recycling, training, and information sharing. One proposed project involves a palm frond recycling facility, valued at approximately US$74.2 million, which will turn palm waste into MDF wood.
Another area of investment is in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from used oils, with an investment value estimated at US$561.2 million. This will include issuing licenses for companies to ensure safe and responsible handling of used cooking oil waste.
The Minister also highlighted a rubber waste recycling project, projected to cost US$14.84 million, which will produce soft tyre powder, a natural rubber substitute suitable for playground flooring, artificial turf, and shoe manufacturing.
The source reported that the partnership will prioritise capacity building and raising recycling awareness, marking a promising start towards regional progress in waste management and sustainable solutions.
