Experts in African countries launch series of conferences on precision agriculture
Practical recommendations for food security and a sustainable future for Africa are expected to emerge
The African Conference on Precision Agriculture (AfCPA), aimed at promoting agricultural innovation on the continent, has been launched simultaneously in 10 African countries. This is reported by Daily News Egypt, a partner of TV BRICS.
The Egyptian session, organised by the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences (NARSS), is in line with the overall goal of promoting precision agriculture as the basis for food security and economic growth in Africa.
In his opening remarks, Islam Aboulmajd, Chairperson of NARSS, emphasised Egypt's leadership in agricultural technology. He highlighted the government's investment in digital transformation and agricultural research as part of a strategy to address critical food security challenges.
Mohamed Aboelghar, Head of Agricultural Applications at NARSS, pointed to the continent's ability to increase agricultural productivity by 70 per cent by 2050 through innovations such as the Internet of Things (IoT).
"This forum provides a vital opportunity for African experts to share knowledge and collectively tackle these challenges," Aboelghar emphasised.
The AfCPA conference highlights the urgent need to adopt precision farming to mitigate the effects of global warming and maximise resource utilisation. The agenda includes lectures from experts, collaborative discussions and case studies aimed at shaping policies to scale sustainable practices across the continent.
Egypt's active participation reflects its commitment to developing regional and international partnerships. Over the next three days, the conference intends to develop practical recommendations to ensure food security and a sustainable future for Africa.
