This development will help ensure universal access to modern energy resources
Indian scientist Mohammad Nazeeruddin has been awarded the 2025 Mustafa Prize, regarded as the “Nobel Prize of the Islamic world”, in recognition of his contribution to developing a new generation of high-efficiency, low-cost solar cells.
According to Mehr News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS, his most notable achievement lies in creating a special coating that prevents the leakage of toxic lead from perovskite solar cells, making the technology safer and paving the way for its large-scale adoption in production and use.
“We have put in a great deal of effort and once this technology reaches the markets, the majority of developing countries will be able to benefit from it with ease,” said Nazeeruddin.
His innovations enable the production of solar panels with unprecedented efficiency of 26 per cent, at a far lower cost than conventional silicon panels. This marks a pivotal step towards achieving “energy justice” by providing clean, affordable electricity for all.
The Mustafa Prize is awarded biennially to honour outstanding scientific and technological achievements that improve human life.
