Iran and Indonesia expand cooperation in higher education, research and cultural exchange

Iran and Indonesia are stepping up collaboration across higher education, research and cultural exchange, as senior officials from both countries reaffirmed their commitment to building long-term academic and scientific partnerships. This is reported by IRNA, a partner of TV BRICS.

During a meeting in Tehran, the head of Iran’s Centre for International Scientific Cooperation and Indonesia’s ambassador reviewed opportunities to broaden university-level links. Both sides underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation in education, joint research and cultural initiatives, highlighting the growing potential for academic networks between the two nations.

The two parties agreed to advance cooperation through new memoranda of understanding, joint research projects, expert meetings and the exchange of university delegations. They also stressed the need to expand academic mobility, including the reciprocal exchange of lecturers and students, and to establish structured mechanisms to support these exchanges.

Among the key proposals discussed was the creation of a joint industrial and technological fund to support collaborative projects between universities and research-driven institutions in both countries. The initiative aims to accelerate the commercialisation of scientific and broaden industrial cooperation.

Discussions also addressed the role of universities in strengthening regional and international scientific diplomacy. Both sides expressed readiness to participate more actively in academic networks and regional forums, including programmes dedicated to technical and vocational education.

Cultural cooperation featured prominently in the talks, with particular emphasis on promoting the Persian language and literature in Indonesia. Expanding or establishing Persian language centres within Indonesian universities was identified as a priority area for collaboration.
