Iranian scientists develop self-powered system using body movements to heal wounds

Breakthrough biodegradable technology generates energy from human motion to support medical recovery

Iranian researchers have unveiled a pioneering biomedical system that harnesses the natural movements of the human body to generate energy for wound healing and health monitoring. This is reported by Pars Today, a partner of TV BRICS.

Developed at the University of Tehran’s Research Centre, the fully biodegradable and wireless platform operates without external equipment. Powered by everyday motions such as walking, the system automatically activates to stimulate tissue repair or monitor vital signs.

A key innovation lies in the use of biodegradable conductive inks based on zinc. Once their medical role is complete, these inks are gradually absorbed by the body without the need for surgical removal. The thin, flexible electrodes can even be designed with artistic patterns, bridging medical functionality with aesthetics.

According to the researchers, the skin itself functions as an active electronic interface thanks to ultra-thin conductive layers applied beneath the outer surface. This allows the body to act as both an energy source and a treatment platform.

Experts believe that the breakthrough not only offers new hope for non-invasive wound care but also paves the way for innovative biomedical devices that merge sustainability, functionality and patient comfort.
