President of Ethiopia emphasises importance of strengthening women in leadership positions

She was speaking at a special training organised by government agencies and the UN

Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde said there is a need to attract women to leadership positions as well as to provide quality training for them. This is reported by ENA.

The leader spoke during a training session attended by about 180 middle-level women leaders from different parts of the country working in public institutions and the private sector.

According to the president, the event focused on how to provide specific support in each case and create opportunities that will help women maximise their role in leading the country.

For her part, Ethiopia's Minister of Women and Social Affairs Ergogie Tesfaye said the government is working to ensure women's inclusive participation in the public agenda by developing legal frameworks and policies.

The country has a presidential programme for training women leaders organised by the UN, the Ministry of Women's Affairs and the Office of the President. It aims to create a platform for training and knowledge sharing among women leaders.
