During the weekly briefing, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova characterised the BRICS summit in Kazan as one of the most significant international events.
"Representatives of 36 countries, 6 international organisations, including UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres are taking part in the XVI BRICS summit," she said in her statement, the text of which is published on the official website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
According to her, historical events are unfolding in the capital of Tatarstan, which are covered by more than two thousand journalists from 59 countries.
Maria Zakharova emphasised the role of the TV BRICS International Media Network in the development of the BRICS common information space.
"At present, TV BRICS is an International Media Network of partner media in the BRICS+ countries. Round-the-clock broadcasts are organised in Russian, English, Chinese, Portuguese and Spanish. This facilitates broad information coverage of major international events"Maria Zakharova Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson
She added that TV BRICS also actively promotes films by BRICS+ directors, cooperates with film festivals and other major cultural events, develops ties with educational institutions, implements educational projects and acts as a platform for experts and bloggers.
Zakharova recalled that the proposal to create an information platform of the countries of the association was voiced by Vladimir Putin at the IX BRICS summit in China in 2017.
"This is an example of practical implementation of the initiative that was put forward during the BRICS summit," the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson stressed.
The essence of the proposal was to establish interaction between the media of the association's countries, as well as to facilitate the dissemination of information about the group's activities. This idea was supported by other BRICS participants.
"More than 70 media outlets from around the world have already joined the TV BRICS: Russia, Brazil, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, as well as Argentina, Armenia, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Cuba, Mozambique, Tunisia, Chile and others. And that's not the limit. Interest in BRICS is growing daily," Maria Zakharova said.
The BRICS summit in Kazan will last until 24 October. The summit is held under the motto "Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security".
