Saudi Arabian scholars to establish UNESCO Chair in Translating Cultures
Saudi Arabia's King Faisal Centre for Islamic Studies recently signed an agreement with the United Nations to establish a UNESCO Chair in Translating Cultures. This is reported by Arab News.
The agreement was signed by Princess Maha bint Mohammed Al-Faisal, secretary general of the centre, and Audrey Azoulay, director general of UNESCO. It is noted that the chair will be established with the support of the Saudi Commission for Literature, Publishing and Translation and will be headed by Moneera Al-Ghadeer.
It is expected that taking this initiative into execution will help meet the growing need for interdisciplinary humanities research, inclusive education and preservation of cultural diversity. The creation of the Chair will help foster collaboration between scholars specialising in translation, intangible heritage, humanities and artificial intelligence at local, regional and international levels.
In addition to the UNESCO Chair in Translating Cultures, a Translating Cultures Lab is planned. The organisation will conduct comparative theoretical studies with a focus on Saudi Arabia and the Arab world.
