Southern Iran discovers karst cave
Specialists are preparing proposals to give the cave an official name and establish a protective status
A previously unknown karst cave, plunging some 150 metres below the surface, has been discovered in Khabr National Park in southern Iran, announced Mohsen Jafarinejad, Head of the Kerman Province Department of Environmental Protection. This was reported by Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.
A multidisciplinary team, including speleologists, conservation experts, and members of the Kerman Caving Association, led the exploration. They reinforced the cave entrance with bolted anchors and recorded its precise geographic coordinates.
The team will officially name the cave, designate it as a protected natural monument, and incorporate it into the park’s ecological and tourism development plans. Officials anticipate that this dramatic new underground site will become a focal point for both scientific research and eco-tourism within Khabr National Park.
