Tunisia and South Africa expand economic cooperation with focus on trade and technology
The authorities believe that deeper economic integration could create new opportunities for businesses and stimulate sustainable growth in both countries.
Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Ali Nafti and South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola held a telephone conversation to discuss prospects for further strengthening bilateral cooperation. This was reported by Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP), a partner of TV BRICS.
The two sides highlighted the significant potential of Tunisia and South Africa to increase bilateral trade and stressed the importance of making fuller use of the opportunities offered by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The ministers also reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in high-technology sectors, including information and communication technologies and digitalisation.
Tunisia and South Africa underscored the need to coordinate their positions in international forums and to support each other’s candidatures for leadership roles in regional and international organisations.
Earlier, Wamkele Mene, Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), stated that Tunisia has favourable conditions for further expanding its exports to African markets.
