Vietnam records strong growth in international tourism in early 2026
Visitor numbers rise as air travel drives expansion and strengthens global connectivity
Vietnam received 6.76 million international tourists in the first quarter of 2026, reflecting a 12.4 per cent increase compared with the same period last year, according to the National Administration of Tourism.
The figures demonstrate sustained demand and the sector’s robust performance in a competitive regional market, as reported by Vetnam News Agency (VNA), a partner of TV BRICS.
March alone accounted for nearly 2.1 million foreign arrivals. Air travel continues to dominate, representing 82.3 per cent of international entries, while land and sea routes contributed 15.5 per cent and 2.2 per cent, respectively. The data highlights the efficiency of Vietnam’s aviation network and the growing confidence of international travellers in the country’s accessibility.
China remained the largest source market, with 1.4 million visitors, contributing approximately 20 per cent of all foreign arrivals in the first quarter. This underscores Vietnam’s appeal to key regional markets and its strategic role in Southeast Asia’s tourism landscape.
Experts noted the early 2026 performance reflects the sector’s momentum, supported by strong connectivity, positive international sentiment, and continued investment in tourism infrastructure.
