Brazil announces first domestically produced dengue vaccine with nationwide rollout in 2025

At least 60 million doses will be distributed nationwide through the public healthcare system in 2025

Brazil has unveiled its first domestically developed dengue vaccine, as reported by teleSUR, a partner of TV BRICS. The initiative was led by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who signed executive orders approving investments in vaccines for dengue, H5N8 influenza, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

The single-dose vaccine has demonstrated proven efficacy against all four dengue virus serotypes. With an initial investment of approximately US$221 million, the vaccine is expected to play a crucial role in mitigating the impact of dengue outbreaks. Brazilian health authorities have confirmed that at least 60 million doses will be distributed nationwide through the public healthcare system in 2025.

In 2024, Brazil launched a nationwide dengue immunisation campaign using the vaccine, targeting 3.3 million children aged 10 to 14. The introduction of the locally developed vaccine is expected to further enhance national immunisation efforts, providing broader access to protection against the disease, the source claims.
