Brazil’s tourism sector creates over 207,000 formal jobs in 12 months

Brazil’s tourism sector continues to serve as a key driver of formal employment across the country, generating over 207,000 jobs in the 12-month period ending in May 2025. This is reported by the official website of Brazil's Ministry of Tourism.

The data, compiled by the Ministry of Tourism based on figures from Brazil's General Register of Employed and Unemployed Persons, underscores the sector’s growing impact on national economic development.

Accommodation and food services led the surge, with a net gain of 85,866 jobs, followed by the arts and culture sector, which created 31,649 new formal positions. In the first five months of 2025 alone, more than 100,000 jobs were generated in tourism-related activities, highlighting the sector’s sustained contribution to employment growth nationwide.

May 2025 was particularly notable, with 12,449 new jobs registered – representing a 75 per cent increase compared to the same month in 2024.

Brazil's Minister of Tourism Celso Sabino reaffirmed the sector’s strategic role in Brazil’s economic and social agenda, stating, “Tourism has demonstrated its strength by consistently creating jobs in every region of the country. This reflects coordinated efforts to position tourism as a strategic engine for national development. We are turning potential into real opportunities for the population.”
