Chile and India advance agricultural partnership with joint horticulture plan
The 2025–2027 action plan focuses on scientific cooperation, innovation and the development of high-value temperate crops
Chile and India have reached a new milestone in bilateral agricultural cooperation by formalising a strategic agreement on technical and scientific collaboration in horticulture. The partnership reflects the growing importance of knowledge exchange and innovation in strengthening food security and sustainable agriculture. This is reported by El Maipo, a partner of TV BRICS.
The cooperation is based on a Joint Action Plan for 2025–2027 signed by the Agricultural Research Institute (INIA) of Chile and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). The document transforms years of expert-level dialogue into a practical framework for joint research, innovation and the development of horticultural production.
The agreement prioritises temperate-zone crops and post-harvest management, covering a broad range of high-value products such as walnuts, kiwifruit, apples, almonds, berries, peaches, plums, pistachios and pine nuts. According to the source, these areas are seen as strategically important for both countries in terms of productivity, export potential and sustainability.
The joint plan is implemented within the existing Memorandum of Understanding on agricultural cooperation between the ministries of agriculture of Chile and India. It outlines a three-year agenda focused on collaborative research in key horticultural areas, the exchange of technologies and the strengthening of scientific and technical capacities on both sides.
The experts noted that Chile and India aim to deepen their agricultural ties and reinforce cooperation in science and technology. The initiative is expected to generate mutual benefits through innovation and improved farming practices.
