Egypt ranked 20th out of 67 countries in the 2025 Climate Change Performance Index and 101st among 180 countries in the 2024 Environmental Performance Index, according to the 2024 Annual Bulletin on Environment and Climate Change Statistics released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS). The report also highlighted the country's progress in expanding renewable energy generation and increasing investment in environmental protection, reports MENA, a partner of TV BRICS.

Furthermore, among BRICS countries included in the 2025 Climate Change Performance Index, India ranked 10th, followed by Brazil in 28th. The 2024 Environmental Performance Index also shows varied results among BRICS and BRICS+ members. Brazil ranked 47th, followed by the United Arab Emirates (53rd), Russia (83rd) and South Africa (106th).

According to the bulletin, in Egypt electricity generation from renewable energy sources, including wind and solar power, reached 11,631 gigawatt-hours during the 2023/2024 fiscal year, marking a 9.3 per cent increase compared with the previous year. Renewable sources accounted for 5.1 per cent of Egypt's total electricity generation, up from 5 per cent in 2022/2023.

The report also highlighted progress in sustainable transport. The number of vehicles converted to run on natural gas rose from 507,300 at the end of the 2022/2023 fiscal year to 553,500 by the end of 2023/2024, representing an increase of 9 per cent.

Egypt also continued to strengthen environmental conservation efforts.
