Egypt welcomes record number of tourists in 2024

The country's authorities launched a programme to expand the hotel infrastructure by 40 thousand rooms

Egypt has received a record 15.7 million travellers by the end of 2024. This was announced by Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy, reports Daily News Egypt, a partner of TV BRICS.

He said this growth was made possible by the security provided by the Egyptian leadership, as well as significant support from the government to develop the tourism industry. Fathy also stressed the important role of the ministry's cooperation with the private sector and civil society organisations.

The minister revealed that the ministry is now working hard to expand hotel infrastructure and attract investment in tourism. For instance, the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Egypt have launched a programme to create 40,000 new rooms, support companies and complete unfinished projects.

In addition, Fathy announced plans to establish a centralised bank for investment opportunities in the tourism sector. The institution is expected to develop a unified map of offerings for investors in both domestic and international markets.

Tour traffic to Egypt in 2024 has exceeded the projected 15.3 million tourists. Last year, 14.9 million people visited the country.
