G20 countries support cooperation in regulating AI in the summit's final declaration

Leaders of the G20 countries adopted a declaration at the end of the group's summit, which is taking place on 18-19 November in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro. The corresponding document was published on the website of the group.

"We gather in the birthplace of the Sustainable Development Agenda to reaffirm our commitment to building a just world and a sustainable planet, while leaving no one behind," the declaration reads.

In the 22-page document, the group's heads of state and government put forward proposals based on the priorities of the Brazilian G20 presidency, which include social inclusion and the fight against hunger and poverty, sustainable development, energy transition and the fight against climate change, as well as the reform of global governance institutions.

In particular, the countries favoured strengthening cooperation on the regulation of artificial intelligence (AI), taking into account the views of developing states. They agreed to responsibly implement AI in various fields, including healthcare and education.

The summit also committed to work with digital platforms to combat misinformation, emphasising the need for transparency.

On reforming global governance institutions, the leaders called for reform of the UN Security Council by increasing the representation of African, Asia-Pacific, Latin American and Caribbean countries in the organisation.

The parties also agreed to accelerate the reform of the international financial architecture to make it consistent with the goals of sustainable development.

The G20 member states paid special attention to climate issues. They called for the effective implementation of the Paris Agreement, which regulates measures to reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

In addition, the declaration enshrined the achievements of Brazil's G20 presidency, such as the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, to which 82 nations have joined, the Task Force to Unite Against Climate Change (TF-CLIMA) and the Call to Action on Global Governance Reform.

The G20 summit takes place on 18-19 November in Brazil. Representatives from 42 countries are attending the summit.
