Heilongjiang Province becomes China’s leading grain producer in 2025

Heilongjiang Province in north-east China produced 82 million tonnes of grain in 2025. It has ranked first among all Chinese provinces in terms of grain output for the 16th consecutive year. This was reported by Dongbeiwang, a partner of TV BRICS.

Maintaining such a high level of agricultural performance has been made possible by the effective organisation of crop production. Of the province’s 14.7 million hectares of arable land, around 8 million hectares have been developed into high-standard farmland, the largest figure in the country. The level of comprehensive mechanisation of agricultural operations, including soil cultivation, sowing and harvesting, has reached 99.28 per cent, placing the province first nationwide in this indicator.

In addition, the contribution of scientific and technological progress to agricultural development has reached 70.8 per cent, which is 7.6 percentage points above the national average. During the period of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021–2025), the average thickness of the fertile black soil layer in the province increased by nearly 1 centimetre.

Heilongjiang is consistently developing high-tech, environmentally friendly and brand-oriented agriculture. The province has become the country’s largest base for the production of organic food products. The quality inspection system covers more than 3.3 million hectares. As the first province in China to introduce a region-wide “order-based agriculture” model, Heilongjiang is successfully promoting products under national brands, which are sold domestically and exported abroad.
