India becomes fourth country to successfully complete space docking operation

The country sets a new benchmark in space exploration with a successful docking experiment

India has achieved a historic milestone, becoming the fourth country to successfully complete a space docking operation. This is reported by ANI, a partner of TV BRICS.

The Space Docking Experiment (SpaDeX), launched by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), involved manoeuvring two spacecraft from a 15-metre hold point to a 3-metre range, culminating in a flawless spacecraft capture. The operation included smooth retraction and rigidisation to ensure stability, with post-docking tests confirming control of the two satellites as a unified system.

Upcoming phases will focus on undocking and power transfer validation, the source claims.

The mission had a dual purpose: to demonstrate advanced docking and undocking technologies for small spacecraft and to enable electric power transfer between docked units. These advancements are critical for in-space robotics, composite spacecraft control, and post-undocking payload management.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his wishes as the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) achieved a historic feat by successfully concluding the docking process of satellites. He said that the success of the Space Docking Experiment project was a stepping stone for future space missions, the source claims.
