India deploys its first humanoid robot railway station to perform surveillance tasks

The introduction of robotic technology is aimed at improving safety, optimising passenger services and enhancing the quality of travel

A humanoid robot has appeared at the Visakhapatnam railway station, designed to improve passenger safety and comfort. This is the first robot of its kind to be used by Indian Railways. This was reported by News9, a partner of TV BRICS.

The robot will perform a variety of functions, including ensuring passenger safety, crowd control, and providing information about trains and their routes. It will also be able to warn passengers about crowded platforms, make announcements in Hindi, English and Telugu, monitor for possible fires or smoke at stations, and notify passengers of train arrivals.

According to the source, the robot was developed entirely in Visakhapatnam, a process that took over a year, and represents a significant technological breakthrough in railway safety.

Indian Railways plans to continue introducing similar innovations in the coming years with the aim of making travel safer and more comfortable for all passengers.

BRICS countries are actively promoting the use of robotics and artificial intelligence as key tools for modernising infrastructure and public services.

In China, the cities of Wuhu, Chengdu and Hangzhou have begun deploying humanoid robots and other models with artificial intelligence to regulate traffic and patrol urban areas, according to Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

For example, in the city of Wuhu, the robot issues warnings to pedestrians and cyclists, performs traffic control actions and monitors traffic in real time using cameras and advanced algorithms, reducing the burden on police officers, especially during rush hour or in adverse weather conditions.

Russia is also making progress in developing robotic solutions for critical infrastructure. According to the Perm University website, scientists from Perm National Research Polytechnic University and Volgograd State Agrarian University have created a universal robot capable of moving through pipes with diameters ranging from 500 to 1,400 millimetres.

Thanks to an intelligent gear system and six suspension-mounted support "legs", the device can automatically adapt to the diameter of the pipes and overcome vertical sections and sharp bends while maintaining constant contact with the inner walls.
