Iran sets new record for gas supply to national grid

Higher processing volumes support stable energy supply during the winter season

Iran has set a new record for gas sweetening and injection into the national grid, according to data from the country’s gas sector. Daily gas supply reached 882 million cubic metres, exceeding last year’s level of 880 million cubic metres during the same period. This is reported by Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.

During the winter season, gas deliveries to power plants reached a new high, with more than 162 million cubic metres supplied in a single day in mid-January 2026. This increase reflects strengthened coordination across production, processing and transmission facilities.

The gas sector has maintained stable operations amid higher seasonal demand. Since late summer, average temperatures have been lower than last year, while household gas consumption has risen due to the connection of approximately 700,000 new subscribers. Despite this growth, gas supply has remained uninterrupted across residential, industrial and power generation sectors.

From the beginning of the current Iranian year to mid-January 2026, additional volumes of gas were delivered to both power plants and industrial consumers. Sector representatives emphasised that these results were achieved through effective consumption management and operational efficiency throughout the national gas system.

Iran possesses one of the world’s largest natural gas reserves, making gas a central pillar of the country’s energy balance, the source states. The National Iranian Gas Company under the Ministry of Petroleum oversees gas processing, transmission and distribution nationwide, ensuring energy supply for electricity generation, industry and households.
