Malaysian Prime Minister emphasises ASEAN's potential at World Economic Forum 2025

As chairman of ASEAN 2025, Malaysia emphasised the region's special features including in the field of economy and trade

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the key message of his participation in the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2025 Annual Summit was to emphasise the immense potential of the ASEAN region. As part of Malaysia's chairmanship of ASEAN in 2025, the WEF session emphasised the unique characteristics of the region, including its economic opportunities. He noted that ASEAN is actively developing trade relations with BRICS. This is reported by Bernama.

Apart from trade and economics, ASEAN intends to focus on energy transition, as well as topics such as education, food technology, digitalisation and infrastructure development.

"Our focus, other than education and food technology, is on energy transition with the grid from Indochina, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia to the Philippines. This is something quite different, an extraordinary progress," he added.

World Economic Forum (WEF) 2025 featured key sessions on ASEAN, including the "ASEAN Leaders for Just Energy Transition’ meeting"; the media briefing entitled “Unlocking ASEAN's Digital Future: Driving Inclusive Growth and Global Competitiveness”; and the ASEAN Plenary session entitled “Even Stronger Together”.
